STORY: Australia's first major publicity campaign to warn consumers about the possible impact of the millennium bug has begun in New South Wales. The State Government is launching the campaign, with the theme "Y2K OK", to be run in newspapers and on radio and television. Up until now, business and government have been the major targets of most information campaigns about the year 2000 date change problem for computers and electronic devices. New South Wales Fair Trading Minister Jeff Shaw says in a report by the Australian Broadcasting Company that the millennium bug is a significant problem. "The campaign is designed to inform purchasers of computer equipment and other related equipment that they've just got to bear in mind the year 2K problems," he said. "They should really be getting guarantees from suppliers and retailers that the equipment will continue to work as we go into the year 2000."
