STORY: Britain has launched a national campaign to combat the fear of problems related to Y2K computer bug failures. The campaign is centered on a booklet called "Facts Not Fiction" which is designed to calm unfounded fears and scare stories. According to Reuters, the booklet promises Britons their money in banks is safe, pensions and mortgages will be paid and cash machines will dispense money as usual. The campaign tells Britons electricity, gas, water and telephones are being fixed of the computer bug so there was no need to fill the bath with water and stock up on firewood. The report from Reuters says Britain is generally regarded as being among the best prepared but last month, the National Audit Office found some services including the police, fire and rescue and hospitals showed elements where severe risks of material disruption remain.
