Feds Hamper Y2K Drug Stockpiling

Drug companies are concerned that panic among patients could lead to drug hoarding and cause more chaos than the actual Y2K bug according the text of this press release issued by Y2K Watch.

According to Dr. Charles Popper, Chief Information Officer for Merck Inc., stockpiling medication would create a surge in demand that drug companies may have difficulty meeting. The reason for this is that US Food and Drug Administration regulations impede the ability of drug suppliers to quickly increase production in response to market demands.
