STORY: It appears Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport and the Akron-Canton Regional Airport will be prepared for Y2K according to airport administrators. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Cleveland city officials say it's airport is 65-percent complaint with a target completion date of it's computer bug fixes of August 1st. At the Akron-Canton Regional Airport, officials are spending upward of $150,000 to get ready for Y2K and they are reportedly feeling good about their progress. The airport plans to be Y2K complaint by September 1st. Some 555 major airports around the country are doing similar upgrades, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA estimates it will spend about $340 million on Y2K related upgrades nationwide, and airlines in the U.S. expect to pay some $700 million combined. A regional FAA spokesman tells the Journal that FAA systems are currently 90-percent ready. A spokeswoman for the Washington-based Air Transport Association and the Aviation Millennium Project, tells the Journal that the airlines are on track to be compliant this summer.
