STORY: Air travelers hit by the "Millennium Bug" may not be able to claim damages on their travel insurance for the resulting delay. According to Reuters Report and ITN Online, The Association of British Insurers say passengers thinking of canceling trips because of possible effects would also not be covered by holiday vacation insurance. However, many policies would cover medical or theft losses during any delay, the association said in a statement. Insurance for people traveling at, or near the end of the year will remain intact for the most part. The statement says,"the only difference will be if you suffer a loss which occurs as a result of a date-related failure. For example, if the airline being used by your tour operator was hit by technical difficulties and had to postpone a flight, you would not be able to claim on your travel insurance for the resulting delay." The ABI also pointed out that precise policy wordings varied from company to company and that people planning to be away over the millennium should see how their cover might be affected. The association said detailed millennium travel insurance advice could be found on its web site: www.abi.org.uk. Source: ITN Online DATE: 6/04/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
