STORY:
Y2K Bug Still Threatens UK

Britain's top 1,000 firms still at risk

The survey by the privately-funded Taskforce 2000 shows that 1,000 British firms are still at risk from the millennium computer bug citing less than half have completed the first stage of checking their computer systems.

According to ITN Online, just under three quarters in the survey said they had organized contingency planning for internal disruption caused by the bug, but that still left 28 per cent with not much time to arrange a back-up plan.

A Taskforce 2000 spokesman says the findings indicate 300 of the UK's largest businesses appear to be playing Russian roulette with the Millennium Bug.

The story says one of Taskforce 2000 greatest concerns is that 14 per cent of the top 1000 companies only had a contingency plan for the millennium weekend, ignoring the advice that the effects from the Millennium Bug will go on well into the New Year.
