STORY: A recent survey shows most respondents believe the Y2K computer bug will have little or no effect on their finances and that includes withdrawing money from an ATM machine on January 1st. The Gallup survey, commissioned by Star Systems, a U.S. electronic banking network, showed 8 out of 10 cash card and debit card holders in the United States expect to be able to conduct transactions at cash machines, supermarkets, and gas stations on January 1, 2000. And while about 64 percent of participants plan to "withdraw and set aside extra cash" prior to December 31, more than half [52 percent] said the withdrawal amount would not exceed the normal amount planned for a weekday, weekend, and/or holiday. 79 percent of those surveyed said they expect Y2K to "have little or no impact" on their personal finances.
