STORY: Calgary, Canada is making sure kids can enjoy the New Year along with their parents Its New Years Eve and to most kids that means spending the night with a babysitter while their parents get dressed up and go out for the evening. In Calgary, Canada things are going to be a bit different this year. The children are invited to the party, no babysitters necessary. Calgary 2000 is an alcohol-free evening for families sponsored by the city and the ENMAX Corporation. The events include a parade, dancing and country music. The parade of Lanterns and Light is a chance for the kids to get involved. They will make their own lanterns then march in the parade with their new craft proudly in hand. The events of the evening continue with the Safeway Kids world Activities. Children will be able to join their parents listening to country music star Michelle Wright and other performers. If parents choose they can attend a formal dinner and ball, kids invited. Its a six-course meal topped off by a late evening chocolate-fountain desert reception. The children get to enjoy the meal and their parents too. The Millennium Clock will count down the minutes to midnight and when the clock strikes twelve there will be a huge fireworks display to welcome in the New Year. Calgary 2000 was planned with families in mind and organizers are hoping they will see large numbers turn out so this can become an annual family tradition.
