Celebration 2000 Canceled

Party of the Century, biggest flop of the century

(Everything2000) It billed itself as the Party of the Century. It was going to be a party you just couldn't miss. It was going to be so big you had to pay $1,000 to $2,500 just to get in. Well, the public said NO in a big way and the show wouldn't go on.

Celebration 2000 was going to be a lavish New Year's Eve event at the Javits Center in New York. The party was supposed to star a multitude of famous names and bands. However, New Year's Eve is a few short weeks away and nobody seems to be buying tickets. In fact, sales are so slow the event was abruptly canceled.

When the party was first announced the bands were not in place. In fact, producer Steve Leber was promising some big names but not being specific on all the details. Steve Leber isn't talking much about the cancellation he does say anyone who bought a ticket will get his or her money back. No word on how many people actually signed up for the party.

Leber does say he is planning a smaller bash now and promises a few famous names such as Andrea Bocelli, Aretha Franklin and Sting. Ticket prices will go down, way down too. Instead of paying $2,500 for a good seat the top price of the new party is $375. In fact, tickets will start at $75.

Celebration 2000 also promised Tom Jones and Enrique Iglesias, but it doesn't look like they will be showing up for the big event. In fact, the party isn't even big enough to be held at the Javits Center, and will be moved to another location yet to be decided. A spokesman from the public relations firm representing the Javits Center is refusing to comment on the botched party.

Could it be that the public is just fed up with New Year's Eve prices overall? A simple dinner in New York can cost you thousands, and few are booking reservations. Restaurants, hotels and resorts across America are beginning to lower their prices because their rooms and resorts and sitting empty.

It's too early to say if any Celebration 2000 tickets at the lower prices will sell, only time will tell and time is also in short supply.
