STORY: According to the Sunday Times of Durban South Africa, millennium celebrations in Durban start in September and are aimed at positioning the city as South Africa's premier tourist destination for the year 2000 and beyond. A Durban marketing consortium, Andrzej Kiepiela Associates, has been appointed to develop the business plan and co-ordinate Durban's millennium celebrations. Andrzej Kiepiela said Durban would mark the millennium by celebrating the city's diversity, unity and heritage. Plans were underway to host at least four major events:
Other smaller events will take place throughout the Durban Metro region from September. A carnival parade, similar to that seen in Paris during the opening of the Football World Cup in 1998 is also being planned.
