Phish's Three-Day New Year's Eve Party

Rock festival set for south-central Florida Indian Reservation

Despite protests from neighbors and the local sheriff, Phish has finally finished its plans for a music extravaganza on the New Year's Eve weekend. The Vermont-based rock band will have a series of stage appearances at a rock music festival it will host on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in the heart of the Florida Everglades. The reservation is between Naples and Fort Lauderdale.

Phish's millennium shows will be modeled in large part after the group's past summer festivals, including The Great Went and Lemonwheel, where the band played several different sets each day.

Phish's millennium shows will take place over a three-day period beginning December 30. According to MTV, Phish will perform an afternoon set and a pair of evening sets on December 30. On New Year's Eve, the band will play another afternoon set, then will wait until shortly after midnight on January 1 to play its final set, which will run until the sun comes up.

County Sheriff Ed Miller has expressed a number of concerns about the event, noting that his small police force would not be able to adequately handle the expected crowd of 60,000 to 70,000. Event organizers have offered to provide a security staff of 300, but Miller wants sworn police officers on the premises, in part to enforce the county's zero-tolerance drug policy.

Advance tickets for Phish's Big Cypress show will cost $150, and will cover admittance for each of the concerts, as well as camping for three nights on the reservation's grounds. For more information and updates about the New Year's Eve concerts, be sure to check out the band's official website.
