STORY: James Bond, Winston Churchill, the milkman symbolize Britain's past 1,000 years When it comes to identifying the top 50 people and places for their country of the last 1,000 years, the British made both predictable and unusual choices. Where else will James Bond, Winston Churchill and the milkman appear on the same list and be celebrated as part of London's millennium party. Organizers of the Britain's Millennium Dome asked 30,000 of their countrymen and women for their top 50 choices to appear in the Millennium Dome's "National Identity Zone". People were asked to select a person or a thing that summed up "Britishiness" for them. The list is short on historical figures, writers and poets which could alarm traditionalists and educationalists alike. The most popular choice was Princess Diana, followed by Prime Minister Tony Blair. Dome officials did not reveal the total number votes the top selections. Other top vote getters were James Bond star Sean Connery, Winston Churchill, the milkman, conkers, the lollipop ladies and the Mini according to This Is London. Four members of the Royal family are in including the Queen Mother. The list includes Margret Thatcher, Paul McCartney and Thora Hird. Entertainers Cliff Richard and Elton John completed the top 10.
