STORY: The Channel Tunnel will be closed to passengers for eight hours on the night of the new millennium in case there are any glitches with the computers that control high-speed Eurostar and shuttle trains. According to a story from This Is London, car shuttle and Eurostar passenger trains will stop running through the tunnel at around 10pm on 31 December and services will not resume until 6am. The tunnel will not be closed. Trains will run empty to test the systems and to be sure that everything functions well the following morning. Eurotunnel is thought to be one of the first major transport organizations to admit it will not operate over the New Year because of concern about the Millennium Bug.
