STORY: 10-part epic program covering last century begins broadcast October 10 CNN will condense 1,000 years of history into ten hours when it launches its epic "MM Millennium" program October 10. The documentary series is being presented in ten 1-hour segments, with each hour covering one century. The program, subtitled "Our Past, Our Future, Ourselves" posed an interesting challenge for the show's producers because the no visual record like photographs exist for more than 800 years of the last century. Each hour is like a series of snapshots with one story from a different part of the world. "There are no photographs, but there are ancient artifacts and we use drawings, renderings, paintings and animated graphics which give us a means to recreate the past," co-executive producer Pat Mitchell told UPI. She said 11th century China was the world's most vibrant and technologically advanced civilization. Mitchell used several millennium related books but found "The Millennium" by Felipe Fernandez-Armesto as a major source for the series. The concept for the series came from CNN's founder Ted Turner. ABC is produced its own documentary series called "The Century". The BBC, PBS and ABC along with The Millennium Television Network are planning marathon millennium broadcasts on New Year's Eve.
