STORY: Twelve million people are expected to see show during the Year 2000 Millennium Dome planners in London have released the first glimpse of the daily show which they promise will be the most breathtaking live aerial performance ever seen. Twelve million people in the year 2000 - a minimum of 35,000 a day - will gather in a central arena to watch a dramatized parable of mankind unfold on stage and in the air according to This Is London. Within a performance area the size of Trafalgar Square, the 150 feet from floor to roof will be filled by performers using trapeze, high wire and mobiles as flying machines. Mark Fisher, who has staged concerts for U2, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones, directs the show. The music is by rock musician Peter Gabriel. Two hundred performers, most of them young people with no prior training, were recruited and 61 will be required for each performance. Each performance will last just 28 minutes. The story is told through the experiences of a family, a father, mother, son and daughter, and of "Skyboy", an outsider who dreams of "mischief and seduction, rebellion and love". The family is divided by internal conflict as they struggle to cope with the changes going on around them. The story is allegorical, with both music and visual performance alluding to the great challenges the human race faces, the rise and fall of civilizations, war and famine, industrial and technological revolution. Ticket sales begin September 23, 100 days out from the first day of 2000. Tickets are going for £57 ($92) for a family ticket for five, £20 ($32) for a full-price adult ticket. The show, which will be staged up to three times a day, is included in the admission price to the Dome. Source: This Is London DATE: 9/17/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
