First Babies of 2000
Twins born in different centuries in several cities

As the clock was getting ready to hit midnight and ring in a new century, expecting moms around the world watched closely wondering if their new child would be the one for the world’s history books.

As history would have it there were some babies who were not only born first in the New Year they were twins and born on opposite sides of the millennium. We know of at least four sets of twins who will grow up being born in different centuries.

In Seattle, the first baby of the New Year in the city arrived at 12:16 am. A baby boy delivered by Maria Cruz Mora-Rivas of Wenatchee. The baby boy has a twin brother who was born a year earlier. The first boy was born at 10:06 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Similiar stories will be told by twins in Indianapolis, Ind,; Fairfax, Va.; Enid, Okla; and Berlin, Germany.

"We got the best of both years,’ said Julie Wallman of Indianapolis. "The first baby of the millennium and a tax deduction."

While it is true that the babies were born in different years, you have to thank modern science for part of the event. When it became clear during labor that Wallman needed a Caesarean section, the couple asked the doctors to wait until around midnight. Jacob Wallman was born at 11:59 p.m. and his sister, Jordan, was delivered at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. The couple says they walked the mall all day New Year’s Eve to bring on labor and their plan paid off.

In Enid, Okla, Bass Baptist Medical Center had a twin birth seperate century story also. Jacob Beebe was born in the final instant of 1999, his brother Joshua a minute later. Jacob will get a case of diapers, three months maid service for mom and other gifts since he was first. Hopefully, he will share the diapers with brother Joshua. The two were delivered naturally and it was pure luck that they were born in different years.

In Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, a woman gave birth to a girl at 11:52 p.m. and the baby girl’s brother was delivered at 12:01 a.m.

In Berlin, a 25-year old bulgarian woman first gave birth to a boy at 11:56 p.m. then to another boy at 12:01 a.m.

As for "firsts" a little boy was born in Auckland, New Zealand at 12:01 at the Waitakere Hospital.

Everything2000.com has been tracking potential millenni-moms every since the big conception day of April 9th. The website will announce later this week, which of it's mom's delivered babies on New Year's Day.
