STORY: Survey shows most people plan to stay home This New Year's Eve may be the biggest evening of the millennium, but most people want to experience it at home on their couch rather than on a cruise, at a concert or some other extravaganza. According to a new survey commissioned by the Billennium Organizing Committee and conducted by National Family Opinion Research, Inc., over 80 percent of respondents say they want to stay home (or be at a friend's home) this New Year's Eve. "The research suggests that a number of the so called 'millennium mega-events' will turn out to be 'mega-duds' with so many people opting to stay home." says Mark Mitten, president of the Billennium Organizing Committee, a company focused on marketing at the millennium. According to a Billennium press statement, 1,000 households were surveyed on the appeal of a broad range of celebration ideas ranging from the Times Square 2000 to historical perspectives, religious retreats to global concerts, in-home gatherings to out-of-home parties.
