STORY: Los Angeles officials have been promising a New Year's Eve that "makes Times Square look like bush league," but it appears it's still just talk because there is still no announcement of official events. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, city officials still are lining up entertainers and corporate donors. The man picked by Mayor Richard Riordan to coordinate the cities events, Mark Kroeker tells the Daily News, "We have nothing against New York, but Los Angeles is where it's happening. L.A. rocks." Riordan told the Daily news, "We'll put together something that makes Times Square look like bush league". The plans, as sketchy as they have been for months call for five simultaneous festivals throughout the city. At the same time, the city will be throwing a major celebration in Hollywood featuring an aerial light show. Despite the abundance of entertainment talent located in the area, officials have not announced who will be performing at any of their venues. Officials say they will finalize their plans in about a month. DATE: 6/02/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
