STORY:
NBC Planning Y2K Disaster Movie

Computer tech tries to save the US from power outages, meltdowns and chaos

NBC has been bitten by the creative bug and will attempt to create a disaster movie based on chaos created by the computer Y2K bug. According to Variety, the movie will be called, appropriately "Y2K".

The thriller will star Ken Olin as a computer tech who is racing to save the United States from disasters caused by computer failures as 1999 turns into 2000. While the computer bug causes power outages on the East Coast, ATM failures and near misses in the skies, Olin's character realizes a nuclear power plant is facing a meltdown and tries to correct the problem before it's too late.

So far, NBC is the only network or broadcaster to announce a non-fiction primetime show based on the potential problems with the Y2K bug. Y2K" also stars Joe Morton ("Terminator 2"), Ronny Cox ("Total Recall") and Lauren Tom ("Friends"). Dick Lowry ("Atomic Train") will direct.
