STORY: Temporary ban on fireworks lifted for New Year's Eve weekend The new law in the state of Nebraska allows the sale of fireworks between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 in honor of expected celebrations on and around New Year's Eve. Previously, state law had restricted the sale of fireworks between June 24 and July 5. According to the Associated Press, State Senator Adrian Smith of Gering said he proposed the measure allowing the December sales so Nebraskans wishing to celebrate the arrival of 2000 would not cross state lines to buy fireworks. While certain types of explosive fireworks are illegal in Nebraska, they are easily obtainable in the neighboring states of Missouri, South Dakota and Wyoming.
