STORY: Millennium bug now a psychosis being reported in UK clinics
As if Britains don't have enough to worry about with the controversial Millennium Dome nearing completion, computers possibly failing and airlines canceling flights, now they are seeing millennium bugs. There are news accounts citing a story in Nursing Times magazine that say "millennium psychosis" cases have appeared in areas around London's Millennium Dome. According to news accounts, Oxleas NHS Trust, a mental health facility near the Millennium Dome has had at least "eight or nine" related "millennium psychosis" cases since March. One patient reportedly believe he had swallowed a millennium bug that he knew would kill him, but if he kept it inside until the year 2000, he would save the world. Another patient broke down walls trying to free people for the millennium. The turn-of-the-century is a big deal in Britain. Every day news articles appear about Y2k computer bug issues, Millennium Dome problems and other related events. Doctors alleged reports of people seeing millennium bugs stem from the high visibility of millennium related stories in the news. Doctors at the clinic expect to see more cases when the Millennium Dome opens in October. Source: Australian Broadcasting Corporation DATE: 07/20/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
