STORY: Digital portrait continues to expand as the new millennium approaches Eastman Kodak Company is inviting people from all over the world to share their favorite pictures and stories at its PhotoQuilt of the Millennium. Using a digital image, visitors can submit pictures and stories to the PhotoQuilt representing their most significant memories, their most cherished people and their hopes for the future. The Kodak PhotoQuilt of the Millennium is a continuously growing and evolving portrait through time as people reflect on the past and prepare to great New Year's Eve. Picture stories submitted to the PhotoQuilt by November 15, 1999, will be considered for display during the historic countdown to the new Millennium around the world. The PhotoQuilt of the Millennium will be displayed on the multi-story Kodarama visual display towering above Times Square in New York, at the Millennium Dome in England and at other countdown celebrations. Online the PhotoQuilt will remain live and continue accepting picture story submissions through January 1, 2001, when it will then function as a multi-image time capsule preserving a snapshot view of the approach and transition into the new Millennium. "As the Millennium approaches, people around the world are beginning to reflect on the past century and look ahead to the future. Kodak is positioned as a key company to participate in commemorating the new Millennium - capturing Millennium moments and sharing Millennium stories," said Lee Corkran, kodak.com Projects Director in a press release. The PhotoQuilt is fast, free and easy to use. To submit a picture, visitors can scan a traditional photo, download a picture from a digital camera or Kodak Picture CD, transfer a Web image or upload a picture from their PC or a Kodak PhotoNet online account. Once pictures are submitted and accepted, into the PhotoQuilt, they are woven into a continuously changing picture collage. The PhotoQuilt is enabled by a Flashpix image file that facilitates quick download times and yields remarkable image quality even as the Quilt continues to expand. Visitors to the site have the option to quickly and easily search the Quilt for pictures by category or keyword, zoom in on a single picture until it fills the entire screen or pan out to view the picture as part of the entire PhotoQuilt. Each time a single picture is selected, its story is revealed. DATE: 9/16/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
