STORY: Sleigh rides, Jaguars being offered at winter resorts on New Year's Eve Rooms at many of Michigan's popular skiing areas are filling up fast even as New Year's Eve revealers must buckle down and pay the premium rates. According to a sampling done by The Detroit News, Year 2000 packages range from glitz and glamour to laid-back and sleigh rides. The Grand Traverse Resort near Traverse City is offering a country-western New Year's Eve. Three- and seven-day packages go from $1,300 to $3,500 and include all the entertainment and a brunch. The upscale Garland resort in Lewiston reports its ski cottages have waiting lists. The resort, known for its wide range of activities such as sleigh rides, hunting and gourmet meals, is offering three types of parties. The Odyssey 2000 is a causal party for both parents and kids. Tickets are $117 for adults, $57 for kids and include music, food and a parade of fashions from various decades in this past century. You can feel like a star at the Elegant Evening in Hollywood - a five-course dinner, open bar and revue featuring celebrity impersonators for $269 per person. And you can go to Dixie with a Mardi Gras Ball at $399 per person. At Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, a three-night package is $679 per person and includes, lodging, unlimited skiing and their millennium masquerade party and fireworks show. The Dearborn Ritz Carlton, like all Ritz Carltons across the country, is offering the $100,000 Ultimate Experience. For party goers who can pony-up that kind of money, you and a guest get two days and two nights of a deluxe suite, a private butler, private daily in-room massages, all the food, beverage and champagne you can drink, tickets to the hotel's party and of course, his and hers Bulgari watches and a Jaguar XJ to take home and keep.
