$1 Million in Times Square Contest

Discover Card plans to create one of the first millionaires of the millennium

Discover Card will give away $1 million to one lucky winner on New Year's Eve in the middle of New York's Times Square, creating one of the first millionaires of the millennium.

All Discover Cardmembers will be eligible for a chance to win in the Cashback Bonus Countdown Sweepstakes. Discover Cardmembers are entered in the sweepstakes with every purchase made through December 10, 1999. Other forms of entry include cash advances, balance transfers and new Discover Card applications.

Discover Card will begin announcing 2,000 qualifiers on Saturday, October 9, 1999 at 5 p.m. ET-one for each hour remaining in 1999. These 2000 qualifiers will each win a $100 Cashback Bonus award and will be announced on the Discover Card sign in Times Square as well as on www.discovercard.com.

From the pool of 2000 qualifiers, five finalists will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Times Square for New Year's Eve. Four of the finalists will win $25,000 and one will leave New York a millionaire.

On New Year's Eve, Discover Card will announce the grand-prize winner on the Discover Card sign atop One Times Square in front of millions of New Year's celebrants. Discover Card's 55'x55' electronic billboard is directly below the spot where the famous New Year's Eve ball descends. The sign is seen by 1.5 million people every day and 30 million tourists a year.

New York isn't the only place people can experience Times Square 2000. A 20'x 20' New York cityscape - complete with the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building and, of course, Times Square - will travel to large malls throughout the country beginning October 2, 1999.

Visitors to the traveling exhibit will have the unique opportunity to have their photo taken and then displayed on the Discover Card Times Square sign later this year. They will be given their broadcast times and information when their photos are taken. Consumers whose faces appear on the sign also will be able to view how they looked by logging onto www.discovercard.com.

The tour will travel to eleven cities-Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Colorado Springs, Charlotte, Charleston and Houston.
