STORY: An Australian event producer is making plans to transform the Sydney Australia downtown skyline into the ultimate corporate billboard on New Year's Eve. The project known as the City of Light is the brainchild of Matthew Joscelyne who has created light shows for 1997's Hong Kong handover, the Atlanta and Barcelona Olympics, and the Superbowl in the United States. Joscelyne's plan is to sign up the owners or tenants of up to 150 buildings in the Sydney central business district stretching from Darling Harbour to North Sydney. Each sponsor will pay up to $100,000 for their light display, depending on the size of the building the images will be projected on. The minimum price is $35,000. "With hundreds of skyscrapers in an unrivalled harbour setting, Sydney is the perfect canvas for the best New Year light show the world has ever seen," Joscelyne tells the Sydney Morning Herald. Each sponsor's individual building is being designed to incorporate art and corporate imagery such as logos, symbols or even moving images such as television commercials. "The only way we can do this is to work with the corporate world and the only way they are going to support our art is by putting their name up in lights as well," Joscelyne said. The light show will run from December 19 to January 2000. DATE: 6/16/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
