STORY: Opera House view and show to be featured in worldwide millennium broadcast No matter what the event, finding a spot to view a New Year's Eve show will cost more than ever. In Sydney Australia, there is no better example than Bennelong Point that surrounds the Sydney Opera house. The famous and popular point will be fenced off and only 16,000 ticket holders will be allowed to view Sydney's New Year's Eve extravaganza. Eight thousand tickets will go to revelers who are paying $800 to $2,000 ($520-1300 US) to attend a party at the Opera House. The other 8,000 tickets will be for guests of nearby parties, including a free "house party" at a small portion of the point. Fanfare for the New Millennium, the Opera House gala featuring Simone Young and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra will be part of a 25-hour broadcast by the BBC as part of its 25-hour millennium broadcast. There are several parties on the point. A contest for tickets to the house party, sponsored by Compaq Computer of Australia, will take place in October. An instant lottery promotion will also offer tickets. The Lord Mayor's bash will take place at the northern boardwalk and the Bennelong Restaurant will have a party too. The Momentum party along the western boardwalk will cost $750 ($490 US) per person. Source: Sydney Morning Herald DATE: 8/18/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
