Top Entertainers Lining Up For New Year's Eve

Be prepared to pay more than you ever have for a concert ticket

New Year's Eve has been a green light for hotels, airlines, restaurants to charge twice, maybe three times their going rate for New Year's Eve. So why don't the world's top entertainers do the same. Well they have, and their fees are being reflected in the cost of some New Year's Eve party tickets.

Barbara Streisand is playing one concert, performing by herself at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for a reported $13-million dollars. It's rumored that her buddy, John Travolta may perform with her. Either way, a cheap seat is $500 with front row going for $2,500.

But according to his promoter, the gloved one, Michael Jackson may be taking home the largest bounty of them all. Jackson will perform two New Year's Eve concerts in Sydney Australia and Honolulu Hawaii. Crossing the International Dateline on a flight between the two venues makes it possible. Marcel Avram told the USA Today, that Jackson will most likely receive the biggest payment ever made to an artist in concert history for the two concerts. Details of the concerts, including ticket prices won't be announced until Aug 29, Jackson's 41st birthday.

Jimmy Buffet is being lured his Florida digs by big money to headline a 12-hour long concert at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The nose bleed section is going for $500 with front row at $1,500. The big Eagles re-reunion with buddies Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt at LA's new Staples Arena has tickets available from $150 to $1,000.

Bette Midler is doing two shows at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for $95 to $500 a pop. Rod Stewart's show at the Rio in Las Vegas has tickets for $400 to $1,000. Although, their concert is on December 30 and not New Year's Eve, Elton John and Tina Turner are still asking for $100 to $600 a ticket for their concert at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Perhaps the biggest show, with the biggest headliners all on one stage will take place in New York at the Jacob Javits Center at the Celebration2000 party. On the bill will be Sting, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, Enrique Iglesia and Kool and the Gang. Tickets cost $1,000 to $2,500 a piece.

David Bowie wants to give the first concert of 2000 and plans to take the stage in Gisborne New Zealand at 12:01am January 1 2000. In San Rafael, near San Francisco, native son Huey Lewis and the News, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bonnie Raitt and Asleep at the Wheel will be performing. The Judds will reunited at the America West Arena in Phoenix. Metallica and Ted Nugent will play the Pontiac Silverdome. Shawn Colvin and Lyle Lovett will get together in Austin Texas and Barry Manilow is playing the Foxswood Casino in Ledyard Connecticut.

Phish is holding a five day rock festival near Orlando Florida. Just down the street, the Bee Gees will be performing in Ft. Lauderdale and further down the street, Gloria Estafan and Puff Daddy will be staging separate concerts in Miami. And Celine Dion will sing her Titanic song once again at the Molson Center in Montreal.
