STORY: Survey says US won't finish testing until late in year The US, considered the leading nation when it comes to fixing computer Y2K bugs won't be clean of the bug until late this year says an international survey. At least three other countries are facing the same situation and two others say they won't be rid of the computer glitch until next year. Results of the survey by the International Y2K Cooperation Center as reported by the Associated Press indicate Slovakia's health care industry and Bolivia's custom services won't be ready until after the computer bug hits on January 1 2000. The United States listed a December completion date for computers in the health care industry. Other countries not expected to finish until December are: Pakistan and Macedonia, for air transportation; Bulgaria, for health; Colombia, for customs, and Angola, for sea and land transportation, customs and health. The International Y2K Cooperation Center is a clearinghouse set up by the United Nations and the World Bank. It received responses from 72 of 195 countries. The completion dates were self-reported by the national Y2K coordinator of each country. Completion was defined as implementing 90% of the fixes. DATE: 8/27/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
