STORY: The "King of Pop" was schedule to do New Year's Eve concerts in both cities The Gloved One won't bring ringing in the New Year twice as he had hoped. Michael Jackson has informed a German-based concert promoter that he won't be performing on New Year's Eve at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu Hawaii and in Sydney Australia. Mama Concerts had been working to bring Jackson to Sydney, Australia, then fly him over the International Dateline to Hawaii to perform a second midnight concert. But then word of both concert cancellations was broadcast on Jackson's web site. Marcel Avram of Mama Concerts said Jackson wants to finish recording his new album, and doesn't want any concerts to interfere with that. No word on whether another big-name entertainer will be brought to Hawaii for a millennium celebration at the stadium. This leaves Liza Minnelli the only performer who wants to perform two New Year's Eve shows in two continents. At last report she was planning to do it the hard way by performing in Europe and taking the Concorde to New York and perform at Lincoln Center. DATE: 10/14/99 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
