Bad Ideas, London Taxis and Drunk Insurance

Got a bad millennium idea? The little peacock network wants to hear from you. MSNBC.com will mark the millennium by asking users to submit what they think is the single worst idea to come along over the past 1,000 years. No subject is out of bounds and users can send as many different ideas as they like. MSNBC.com will publish nominations over the next three months and give MSNBC.com users the opportunity to vote for what they think is the best worst idea.

If you think millennium mark-ups are bad here, be prepared if you are traveling to London. The drivers of London's black cabs say that they will refuse to work on Dec. 31 unless allowed to charge an extra $40 on every fare. The government, which licenses the cabs and sets their fares, is still considering the proposed surcharge. A government spokesman said a decision is expected shortly.

If the taxis won't run, that begs the question, "what about all the drunks who need a ride home?" We you can insure yourself from covering the costs of whatever, if you get drunk in London on New Year's Eve.

An (unnamed) insurance firm in London is selling pounds 100 ($162 US) policies offering a pounds 5,000 ($8,100) payout to millennium night revelers who are arrested and flung in the cells for being drunk.
