Today's Millennium Stew --------
by Matt Markovich
As if President Clinton hasn't already created a script worthy of a Hollywood movie, now Speilberg is helping him out. The director of ET, Jaws and Duel (his first TV movie) will direct President Clinton in a 17-minute movie to celebrate the turn-of-the-millennium. Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter the film will be shown on New Year's Eve at the Millennium Gala in Washington, D.C., which is being produced by Quincy Jones and George Stevens Jr. Clinton will do a voice-over for the project, and longtime Spielberg collaborator John Williams will compose an original score.
B.B. King's Blues Room is scheduled to open in December in New York's Times Square and BB may forgo his club in Memphis and play here on New Year's Eve. Danny Bensusan, the owner of the Blue Note jazz club in Greenwich Village, and blues musician B.B. King are planning to open a 17,400-square-foot blues nightclub in the E-Walk Entertainment Complex, joining an array of restaurants, stores and theaters that have moved in in recent years.
The 550-seat club will have two main parts: the club, open at night for entertainment and shows; and a restaurant and bar named Lucille's Cafe, open for lunch and dinner featuring BB's favorite meal...steaks.
And a British Columbia man is behind bars tonight accused in a bizarre international plot to set off a series of bombs on New Year's Eve. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested fifty year old Alfred Ramar at his house in Vancouver. It's alleged the explosives were set to coincide with the confusion over the Y2K bug. American officials say the scheme involved buying oil futures, blowing up a section of the Alaska pipeline and then profiting from the ensuing oil shortage.
