Today's Millennium Stew --------
by Matt Markovich
Don't let your wife, girlfriend read this one... A flawless, 203-carat pear-shaped diamond was among the rare jewels displayed by De Beers in London as part of its Millennium collection. It is more than four times the weight of the 45.52-carat Hope Diamond. The stone, called the Millennium Star, was discovered several years ago in Zaire now the Democratic Republic of Congo. It will go on display New Year's Eve for a year at London's Millennium Dome with 11 rare blue diamonds, weighing a total of 116 carats. The price?... just two months salary as the ad says.. times infinity. Where will the Boss play on New Year's Eve? All of his fans are wondering because Bruce Springsteen announced long list of tour dates extending into the Year 2000 and it did not include New Year's Eve. There had been widespread speculation that Springsteen and the boys would play Dec. 31, 1999, at the Meadowlands, where they recently completed a sold-out 15-night stand. The folks in New Jersey say he's rumored to play at the Continental Arena on the same night. There's no official work yet. We know where Sammy Hagar is playing New Year's Eve... behind the bar. The aging rocker and former lead singer of Van Halen plans to be behind the bar at the Cabo Wabo Cantina, a local hangout he owns in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He says it's going to be the only place in the world that's not serving champagne. Hagar is planning a huge tequila party on New Year's Eve. He's not ruling out an acoustic set on his own stage. "I wouldn't have my fans fly all the way down there and try to charge $1,000 for the same thing I would do for $10," he said recently. Now that's the millennium spirit!
